Random answer: Omg, yes, Grell is pretty! And awesome. I get that some people don't give a damn about the Word of God - "the author is dead" and all that - but some things just stink of transphobia. The ones who just keep ignoring the facts and spread false information, though. So I can understand that a whole lot of people genuinely don't know any better. Now I feel stupid." I hadn't know she'd been in love with a woman, either. Longer answer: To be fair, I don't think it becomes clear in the anime that she's female - I'm known for skipping whole scenes on occasion, so maybe I just missed the essential parts, but I remember taking my first stroll in the Kuroshitsuji fandom and going, "Wait, Grell is not a gay man? Oh. (As a side note, I think she's quite pretty, despite the psychoness) Sorry for the rant, but this annoyed the hell out of me. I mean, it goes beyond being stupid (how many damn hints do they need?!) to being plain bigoted. Good god, so many people would tell me I have no real reason to complain (I'm cisgendered, before you ask, and according to people I know this means I shouldn't be offended/upset by these kinds of things), but holy hell, this angers me beyond all reason. Hell, I've even seen some people comment that because she doesn't have the appropriate lady parts, she's a man, whether she wants to be or not. I mean, is it because people don't want a transsexual in their anime? There's nothing wrong with her for being transsexual (there IS plenty wrong with her being a psycho though - note the chainsaw), but for some reason, a large portion of the fanbase just doesn't seem to be able to accept her for what she is. So WHY do we still get fans asking what gender she is, and getting the answer "he's a gay man"? In fact, she's not even gay - she's bisexual, as she's shown to have fallen in love with a woman at one point (although she DEFINITELY prefers men). Outside the show the creator has had multiple interviews where she's stated that Grell is a transwoman. So why the hell do so many damn fans of this show insist that she's just a "very" gay man?! The creator has outright stated, MULTIPLE TIMES, that she's a transwoman, both outside the series and in it - in the show itself, Grell talks about how she has the heart of a woman, how she wants to be a woman, and how she finds it horribly sad that she wants children but can't have them. That's not so difficult to understand, right? The answer is that she's a transwoman who's still biologically male. Grell's appearance makes it hard for people to figure out whether she's male or female. For those who don't watch anime and/or don't know the series Black Butler, this is Grell:
